In the STS group meeting of 03/12/2019 (https://indico.gsi.de/event/9741/), it was agreed that the ladder from the second station for the 2020 runs would be build using a 6x12 sensor placed at the bottom (matches the final usage of these sensors). This would both allow to test the performance of the 6x12 sensors and reduce the readout electronics needed (CROBs).

The mSTS will therefore have the following geometry in 2020 (view from target, beam on the left):

This geometry should be implemented to check if the hits/data rates per channel in the 6x12 sensor are reasonable.
The changes to do compared to the Nov. 2019 version are (numbering to cross-check):
  1. Enable U3 but disable ladder 1 (sensors 3, 4 and 5)
  2. Replace U3 sensors 1 and 2 by a single 6x12 sensor
Depending on the available electronic components (LDO, FEBs, ...) and manpower, it will be upgraded between March and May to complete the first station

the new mSTS v19c geometry is in the trunk.
Please test it. You can use the new setup file for March 2020:

you have ordered 2 mSTS geometries, correct?

The setup should be (from top to bottom)

for March 2020

Hi Pierre,

what you ask for is not easy to build in the STS geometry macro:

To build a partially filled U3 at the correct x position is not trivial,
if there is only one ladder on the +x side.

Can't we simply use the mSTS v19d geometry, as visible above in note no 8,
and if there is no ladder in U3 on the -x side,
then there is simply no data for that sensor?

This means that wee would use mSTS v19d for both March 2020 and May 2020,
but with different amount of electronics.

According to your input in note no 7 we will have:

2 ladders, 4 sensors,  8 febs, 2 robs, 1 or 2 afcks - in March 2020
3 ladders, 6 sensors, 12 febs, 3 robs, 2 or 3 afcks - in May   2020

Is this correct an do you agree?

I had a look at the summary written by Johan following the STS meeting and additional discussions in the following days (can be found at https://indico.gsi.de/event/9741/material/1/1.pdf).
The final decision is that there will be no modifications of mSTS between march and may.

So we will have in both beamtimes

2 ladders, 4 sensors,  8 febs, 2 robs, 1 or 2 afcks - in March 2020

I will try it with mSTS v19d (or push this rate check on someone else) and if I find the time I will play a bit with the geometry (like removing U0 and U2) to check if the other detectors see any effect from the "ghost" modules
