CbmRoot: MR 544: Replace ROOT data types with C++ standard

Added by Volker Friese 6 days ago

Following discussion and agreement in the software meeting of 7 October 2021, we intend to replace the ROOT integer data types with C++ standard types and TMath with the C++ standard math library for all classes in core/data in MR 544.

We do not expect compatibility issues in cbmroot. However, it would be desirable to have independent checks beyond the tests in our CI. So you are invited to checkout the code of the MR from https://git.cbm.gsi.de/j.decuveland/cbmroot/-/tree/no_root and test it w.r.t. the HEAD with your analysis. Please report unexpected findings or problems in reply to this news or in a Redmine issue.

If no problems are reported, we will merge the MR by the end of next week (10 December 2021).

CbmRoot: Break of backward compatibility with new CbmStsDigi

Added by Volker Friese about 1 month ago

As announced earlier (Digi times relative to time slice), the introduction of the new CbmStsDigi class with MR355, connected to the new time reference of digi times (time is expressed relative to the time slice) breaks backward compatibility (see also #355). This concerns simulated data produced with earlier software versions as well as beam time data before 2021. Please take this into account.

Regular tests with earlier mCBM data will be removed from the CI pipeline, as agreed in today's software meeting.

Older data can, of course, still be read and analysed with the appropriate software version, e.g. cbmroot APR21.
